These are some of my original patches made for the Roland JX-8P synthesizer. Bass, dark string and synth pads, arpeggios and stabs.

There are some realtime patch edits in this demo without the use of the external programmer, so go ahead and give that EDIT slider a nice workout. Would have been nice if the edit slider had a pass-thru data function, that is why you will hear some edit jumps in the audio.

In addition to utilizing the Beatstep for sequence duties, there is gratuitous amounts of delay and reverb added to most sounds.

A quick test of our recently acquired and restored CS80. There’s an interesting history behind this instrument in that it was reportedly given (yes, given) to Jeff Wayne by David Essex and used on Jeff’s War Of The Worlds album.

At some point after the album it developed various faults (we think it was dropped from a truck) and was placed in storage for many years. By the time we acquired it, it was in a very bad state so we had synth-tech par excellence, Kent Spong, painstakingly bring it back to life.

This is a quick test featuring the new ribbon strip in Sustain Mode 1.

D-550 improvisation using a custom patch made with the PG 1000 controller. This is just one single patch, no overdubs. The Roland D-50/D-550 is an amazing synth, it has a certain something that often surprises and delights. You gotta use that PG 1000 to get the best out of it though (or a software editor, i recommend sounddiver for the pc). This sound is available to purchase as part of a sysex bank of 64 sounds. This is one of my older pieces composed on the Ensoniq TS12, which demonstrates some of the morphing ‘transwaves’ found on the synth, and a rather nice lead called ‘Mobius’!
